The New Inn in Tholthorpe

Whether dining, drinking or seeking accommodation- or all three the New Inn is an ideal venue, nestled in the picturesque village of Tholthorpe next to the village green.

Within this pretty setting complete with duck pond and with a significant role in the history of world war I, The New Inn offers real cask ales and recently were awarded the cask marque award. They offer a fine selection of wines in a relaxed and friendly environment.

The main menu brings you the best of each season’s dishes, together with regular changing specials menu and is available within the bar area or the completely refurbished traditional restaurant, which oozes character with it’s exposed brickwork, stone floors and open fire place. The mouth watering dishes offer the best of local produce from Charles Henly of Tholthorpe, Hartleys Butchers and R spilman of Helperby.

The smart, whitewashed exterior of The New Inn at Tholthorpe unfolds into a bar and dining room where the best of the new combines with the finest of years gone by to create the perfect venue for eating, and meeting and greeting friends old and new. Our beamed ceilings, traditional furniture, bar, extensive tiled floors and dining room (where each table has its own contained candle feature) all form part of the welcoming picture for which The New Inn is so well known in this part of the world.

  • The beamed bar is well stocked with wines, spirits, beers, lagers and soft drinks and a popular feature continues to be our beautifully maintained cask ales.
  • In our equally authentic dining room we specialise in cooking to perfection, traditional favourites including gammon, steaks and fish which, with the addition of wines and drinks from the bar, form the perfect meal-realistically priced.
  • Even greater bargains are to be enjoyed as the result of our Early Bird Menu and we stage, throughout the year, a range of hugely popular theme nights where good food and drink, in keeping with the theme of the event, can be enjoyed at popular prices and in convivial company.
  • *Patron/Head Chef: Cameron Reid was previously head chef at the Durham Ox, Crayke.
  • At the New Inn we are delighted to offer visitors bed and breakfast accommodation in quality en-suite rooms with colour television, beverage making facilities and central heating.

The village of Tholthorpe itself became famous immediately after the Second World War in 1944 when a Royal Canadian Air force Halifax Bomber, loaded with bombs, crashed immediately after take off from the airfield at Tholthorpe. All eight crew were killed and only the skill of the pilot saved the lives of many others on the ground. This historic event is commemorated throughout the village and, at the New Inn, our photographic record of the event proves to be an item of fascination and reflection for many customers
